Our mission

Two years ago, I'd have told you a "dipstick" was a fair description of me, in the context of all things cars - not something living under a bonnet.

Then I joined one of the UK's largest breakdown businesses. Nobody was about to hand me a spanner, but bit by bit I started to understand cars: what each part does, why it matters, and what actually happens when it goes wrong. And one thing stuck with me - just a little bit of knowledge goes a very long way.

Because when your car plays up, it's rarely just the car. It's the stress, the lost time, the hassle, and the slow climb of anxiety as you face the inevitable trip to the garage - knowing the person explaining it all understands far more than you do.

Most mechanics are full of integrity. But the sheer amount of trust we hand over - what's wrong, how to fix it, what it should cost - can leave you feeling helpless before you've even said a word.

That's why Carautonomy exists: to help you understand what the parts in your car actually do, work out what might be wrong, and - before long - point you towards getting it sorted. All in plain English, with the jargon left at the door.

That's the autonomy in the name - walking into the garage informed, not intimidated, and back in control of your own car.
