What is a Digital Instrument Cluster?

Screens instead of dials.

mphrpm42°F12.4 miA single screen replaces analogue gauges — re-skinnable for sport, eco or nav modes

Simplified animation — not to scale.

In plain English

A high-resolution screen behind the steering wheel that replaces the old analogue speedometer and rev counter. It can change layout depending on the driving mode — sport, eco, navigation, minimal.

A simple analogy

"It's a dedicated tablet for the dashboard — same job as the old needles, but it can re-skin itself depending on what you're doing."

How it works

A small computer reads data from the engine, gearbox, ABS and other sensors over the car's data bus (CAN). It then draws virtual gauges, warning lights and trip info on an LCD or OLED screen, refreshed many times a second.

Signs of trouble

  • Cluster goes blank or flickers on startup
  • Warning lights stuck on or missing
  • Glitchy or pixelated graphics
  • Wrong speed or fuel reading
Rough UK cost

£550–£1,900

Parts: £400–£1,500
Labour: £150–£400
