Simplified animation — not to scale.

In plain English

The big touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard that brings together navigation, music, phone calls, radio, climate controls and car settings in one place.

A simple analogy

"It's the tablet glued to your dashboard — a smartphone for your car that happens to know about the engine and the doors too."

How it works

A small computer behind the screen runs a custom operating system. It connects to the car's speakers, microphones, antennas, sensors and (via Bluetooth, USB or Wi-Fi) to your phone. Inputs come from the touchscreen, steering-wheel buttons or voice commands.

Signs of trouble

  • Screen freezes, restarts or goes black
  • Slow to respond to taps
  • Bluetooth or CarPlay/Android Auto keeps dropping
  • Reversing camera fails to appear
Rough UK cost
