What is Wireless Phone Charging?

A pad in the centre console or armrest charges a compatible smartphone (most modern iPhones and Android phones) just by placing it on top — no cable required.

How does it work?

Inside the pad is a coil of wire creating a magnetic field. Your phone has a matching coil that picks up that field and converts it back into electricity, charging the battery.

What does it feel like?

Drop your phone on the pad and a small light flickers on, sometimes accompanied by a soft tone from the phone. No fiddling with cables in the dark.

Benefits

  • No fumbling with cables
  • Keeps the phone in a known, secure spot
  • Tidier centre console
  • Doesn't wear out the phone's charging port

Limitations

Slower than a good wired charger. Phone cases that are too thick, or magnets used for car mounts, can prevent charging. Pads generate heat — not ideal in direct sun.
