Airbag / SRS Warning
Your airbags may not deploy in a crash. Get it scanned.
What it means
A red icon of a seated person with a circle (the airbag) in front of them. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) has spotted a fault — it could be a seatbelt buckle sensor, a wiring fault under a seat, or a problem with the airbag itself. Either way, the airbags may not fire in a crash. It’s an MOT failure.
What to do
- 1Avoid carrying passengers in any affected seat if you can.
- 2Don’t try to DIY this — airbags are explosive devices.
- 3Book it in for diagnosis within a few weeks; sooner if you carry children.
Likely causes
- •Damaged wiring under a seat (e.g. from the seat being slid back and forth)
- •Faulty seatbelt buckle sensor
- •Disconnected airbag connector after recent work
- •Failed airbag clock spring (in the steering wheel)
Rough UK cost
Diagnosis: £40–£80. Common repairs: £100–£500. Clock spring: £200–£500 fitted.
