Fog Light Reminder (Rear)
Your rear fog light is on — turn it off when visibility improves to avoid dazzling other drivers.
What it means
A green icon of a headlamp with horizontal lines pointing left. Unlike warning lights, this is simply an information light telling you the rear fog light is switched on. Rear fog lights are very bright and must only be used when visibility is seriously reduced (below 100 metres). Leaving them on in clear weather dazzles following drivers and is an MOT failure point.
What to do
- 1Turn the rear fog light off as soon as visibility improves — it’s usually a separate button or a pull-switch on the stalk.
- 2Check before every journey in clear weather — it’s easy to knock the switch on accidentally.
- 3If the light won’t go off, the switch may be faulty. Pull the relevant fuse as a temporary fix and get it repaired.
Likely causes
- •Driver left the rear fog light switch on
- •Faulty fog-light switch
- •Short in the fog-light wiring
Rough UK cost
Usually free (turn it off!). Switch replacement: £40–£120.
