Lane Keeping Assist Warning

The system that helps keep you in your lane has been switched off or isn't working.

What it means

An amber icon of a car between lane markings, sometimes with a steering wheel symbol or the words LKA. Lane Keeping Assist actively steers the car back into its lane if you drift without indicating. If the light stays on, the system has been disabled or has detected a fault.

What to do

  1. 1Check if you accidentally pressed the LKA OFF button — press it again to re-enable.
  2. 2Clean the windscreen around the rear-view mirror area where the forward camera is located.
  3. 3If the light stays on, the camera may need recalibration after windscreen replacement.
  4. 4Drive carefully — you'll need to steer manually without the lane-correction assistance.

Likely causes

  • Driver disabled the system via dashboard button
  • Dirty, misted or obstructed forward camera
  • Faded or unclear road markings
  • Windscreen replaced without camera recalibration
  • Faulty camera or steering torque sensor
Rough UK cost

Usually free (press the button or clean the camera). Recalibration: £100–£250. Camera replacement: £400–£1,000.
