Service Due / Oil Life Reminder
Your car is due a routine service — no panic, just book it in.
What it means
An amber spanner or the words SERVICE / MAINTENANCE. The car’s computer has reached a mileage or time interval (or calculated that the oil has degraded) and is reminding you to book a service. It’s not a breakdown — the car is safe to drive — but leaving it too long can invalidate warranties and reduce engine life.
What to do
- 1Check the service book or dashboard menu to see exactly what’s due (oil change, inspection, brake check, etc.).
- 2Book a service at a reputable garage within the next few hundred miles.
- 3After the service, the garage should reset the reminder. If doing your own servicing, consult the handbook for the reset procedure.
Likely causes
- •Mileage or time interval reached since last service
- •Oil degradation algorithm triggered (based on driving style, temperature, cold starts)
- •Previous service not reset properly
Rough UK cost
Interim service: £120–£250. Full service: £200–£400. Main dealer tends to be 30–50% more.
